Andre Gide on the Limits of Understanding

GideEach of us really understands in others only those feelings he is capable of producing himself.

-- Andre Gide, 1921.

Quoted in ADD Success Stories -- a guide to fulfillment for families with attention deficit disorder, by Thom Hartmann

Is it any surprise that I wrote this blog while I should have been working?

Or that I spent ten minutes trying to re-find the quote in the book, only to discover (after finding the quote) that I had bookmarked the page two days earlier when I saw it the first time...

Or that I spent five minutes trying to find the original quote source, to make sure that Hartmann got the words right...

Or that I spent ten minutes writing an Amazon.com review for the book...

... all while I was in the middle of a late-night push to finish a writing project that was due at 8 a.m. the next day?
