Aren't Hands Weird?
Aren't hands weird? There's an old Doonesbury cartoon in which the grown-up characters are remembering their younger days: in Zonker's stoner memory, he's staring at his digits and wondering out loud, "Have you ever really looked at your hands?!"
I mention that in part to distract from the reality that I couldn't get a pretty picture of my left hand this evening. (I'm no George Costanza, hand model.) But the real point is this: today I can wear my college ring for the first time in more than ten years. I'm weighing in now at 151, 19 pounds less than my max from a year ago, and the lightest I've been since maybe 1995. In the next twelve months I'd like to drop another 10 lbs. of fat and I'd like to add about 15 lbs. of muscle. Nothing dramatic: just steady improvement of health habits. Fingers are crossed. (Gosh that looks funny. Aren't hands weird?)
Oooh, nice class ring. I wish I knew where my college or high school class rings were. I can't believe I lost them over the years. :(

Sorry about your losses, DBP! If this weren't a gift from my folks, I'd give this to you as a replacement. I'm not much for jewelry. I used to wear this back in the early 90s, but I used to wear neckties then, too -- it was a different age and I used to have a regular job.
All that said, it is a nice ring as these things go. I hadn't planned to get one, but my folks thought it would be cool. And the design isn't one of the standards: my mom asked if they could do the side thingys (the degree and the year) on this particular signet ring, and the guy had to research a while before determining that they could.
One of my classmates did even better: he bought a women's ring which looks great on his hand. But he doesn't wear it anymore, either. Maybe I'll wear mine to 20th reunion next year? Nah.

I remember that cartoon!
and my hands are stained with black dye. I couldn't find enough black clothes and bibs for my baby, so I dyed 'em myself :-)

Good for you on the healthy habits!
I hate rings. My hands are subjected to the heartbreak of eczema, or however you spell it. Rings just make it worse. My eczema is such that I have not had normal pads on the important fingertips of my right hand for years. I would not yield decent fingerprints from that hand. I mostly write the gross stuff about myself in other people's blogs like this.
