Antonio Banderas Can...
-- some comedian on a VH1 "hot people from the 90s" special.
He certainly is the heat, and I'll watch Desperado (or Four Rooms, or Once Upon a Time in Mexico, or the Zorro flix, or heck even Spy Kids pretty much any time) because he's so damned cool. But does anyone remember him for his role as the obsessive young gay murderer in Almodovar's La Ley Del Deseo?
La Ley is probably the first place that I saw Banderas. As I watched other Almodovar films later in life, I came to realize that (a) I respect Almodovar's work and (b) really, I just movies for entertainment. If I have to work at it, I'm not going to sit for it. My loss, of course. But it's nice to know.
Photo from random internets. I also have a hot former colleague who could have passed for Antonio's sister. I wonder if they've ever met?

Antonio Banderas does nothing for me. Especially when paired with Melanie Griffith, urgh.

In "Truth or Dare" (1991) Madonna called Banderas "the sexiest man alive" and set out to meet him. Uncanny timing with this post. Last night I saw somebody at a nightclub who reminded me a lot of Banderas in his Almodovar days.

Oh yes, I remember Banderas in la Ley Del Deseo, and also as the slightly dweeby/henpecked boyfriend in Mujeres Al Borde de Un Attaque de Nervios. So I was a little surprised when he started to be cast as a ladykiller type.
I think Banderas can rock that trademark look of his, but there's a young guy who rocks that sort of thing way better than Banderas ever could: Daniel Schutzman, who played Salvatore Biagi on the British show "Footballers Wives." Check him out: http://www.footballerswives.tv/characters/char_sb.html#

What about "átame!" (aka "Tie Me Up! Tie me Down!") I cant believe its been nearly 20 years (1990) since that movie!
Anecdote to Antonio's Sexiness... Years ago, when my abuela was still living, I remember sitting at my parent's kitchen counter, and whispering with my mom abou this sexy as all get out Antonio Banderas dude (likely in the wake of Interview with the Vampire or some such movie).
Suddenly, my grandmother pipes up at the other end of the counter and says,wide-eyed and with a delicious smile on her face, "ay! ese hombre! Me lo como con pán!" (rough translation: OMG Than man! I'd eat him up with some bread!)
