Brussels Sprouts on the Stalk at Harris Teeter

Brusselssprouts450

Harris Teeter now has Brussels sprouts on the stalk!

Not to revive a topic discussed on somebody's blog sometime a couple of years ago, I really like Brussels sprouts when they're done nicely.

These on the stalk make me think of those jingle bell sticks that some bands/orchestras use.

This is perfect for a Healthy Eating presentation I'm doing tomorrow. I'm planning on having a "Guess the vegetable" activity where I put a vegetable in a box with just a hand cutout. I was trying to come up with strange veggies. Heh.

Thanks!

Goddammit. I just updated the above blog to take care of a spacing problem and to add a link to the "jingle bell sticks" and now I have guess-what-dadgum-song in my head. At least I don't have the barking dog version. Oh damn, not any more.

I like brussels sprouts tossed with olive oil and diced bacon and roasted in the oven. yum!

I have never seen brussels sprouts look like that!

I love brussels sprouts - sauteed with bacon (as above), or even just stuck in the microwave until they no longer resist when I bite them.

Those Harris Teeter sprouts are a bargain at $3.95 (I think that's what it is). I love them! I take off the sprouts, remove the outer leaves, salt-boil them for 13 minutes, slice them in half, brown some butter in a pan, then fry the sprouts until they're crispy. Did I mention I love sprouts? I love sprouts.

Oh, another method is to do the boiling thing and then bake the sprouts in bacon and gruyere cheese. Sprouts Au Gratin. Amazing.

I love Brussels sprouts.

Bob is right on with the price.

And reading this comments is making me kick myself for having bought broccoli (2 for the price of 1) instead of the sprouts.

Here's hoping that the Brussels sprouts will stay in stock through whatever the season is. HT only seems to have four or five stalks on display at a time.

Pan-fried in bacon grease, then glazed with maple syrup...

Three things about brussels sprouts:
1. They sometimes have an asparagus-like effect on your pee.
2. For every person there is a way of making brussels sprouts such that he could eat the quantity pictured.
3. For me, that's Bill's method--but since I'm a lazy momfo I don't bother boiling first: sliced in half and straight onto the griddle: finish with garlic + oyster sauce
