NC Apples

Earthfare in Chapel Hill has a boatload of local apples for sale at $0.99/lb.  The sampler dish offered ~6 different apples of which the Cameo (word up!) was far and away my fave.  And did  I mention they're open 24 hours a day?  Holy cats.

Also FYI, they have blood-typing kits for $8.95 -- useful if you want to try the Eat Right for Your Type food plan.

Yummy! I like the old school price stickers too. So cute, like a grade schooler stacked the apples

Eerie, eerie EarthFare! I like their products, but I always feel so alone there. Are there other shoppers? Do they wait until I'm gone to stampede in and buy things? Did EarthFare not realize how close Whole Foods and Weaver Street Market are? Nice place, but it has a strange feel to it.

That's a big improvement over the $3+ apple I almost bought there. Near-fatal sticker shock ensued, and yeah, the place was empty now that I think of it.

Props for local produce! Now if they get a decent baker I will reconsider buying my apple-cheese-baguette sandwiches there.

Moving in right down the street from the competition is a time-honored business strategy (even if it doesn't always work out). I've heard, though, that the reason Southern Season moved out of that location was because it had such bad truck access for deliveries. Always wondered why Earth Fare didn't know or care about that...
