Grasshopper - Durham NC

Hangingpork400_1 At Grasshopper restaurant in Durham, one of George Bakatsias's latest.

Had this last week on my first visit to Grasshopper which has received mixed reviews in its first year.  As for me: I enjoyed the food (particularly the Bun, above - a surprising $7.50), loved the patio, and had nothing but good and fun service which included a special request to substitute the catfish from one recipe in for the tilapia in another.

I'll definitely return for business and casual lunches.  Pal M treated me last week.  Next one's on me.

The ownership and management changed pretty radically a few months after Grasshopper opened. The menu also changed a lot -- for the better, I think.

I totally agree with Joe - when they first opened, I wasn't too impressed, but I went back again a few months later and it was fabulous

Hey, we finally made it Durham and we had a great meal at Grasshopper. We were there with the whole family, Noey included, and invited a lone diner to join us. Turns out Hiro was interviewing at Duke for a position, he hailed from Chicago and was wondering if he should move here, we tried to make a good impression so that he would.

Lei-ko, how great that you're here! I hope to see you and the family before long. Wait, I just did! How nice to run into you on Ninth St.

And how nice to hear that you invited a lone diner to join you. That's a lovely thing that I always think I should do when I'm eating alone, but almost never do.

BTW, Xiloa was yummy.
