Felix Ganzon, 15 Nov 2004 | obituary

Felix Ganzon at Disney World, ~1986

Felix Diamse Ganzon died November 15 at age 92, at home with family in Marina, CA. A native of the Philippines, Mr. Ganzon came to the United States in 1971 with his wife, Dionisia. A widower since 1976, he lived in Durham from 1986 through 1993, and was a respected elder member of the Filipino community and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mr. Ganzon was the beloved head of a large family which included seven children, nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his faith, his kindness, his humility, and his good humor. He will be remembered for the beautiful way he whistled in his workshop; and his work as a carpenter leaves numerous mementos of his talent and generosity. Though he had advanced Alzheimer’s, he was graced with a moment of lucidity at dinner several days before he died. From the head of the table he asked his family to remember, “Love each other. Don’t live for yourselves, only. Serve others.”

Local family members include his daughter, Gloria Ganzon Marsosudiro; son-in-law, Haryo Marsosudiro; and grandson, Philindo Joseph Ganzon Marsosudiro.  A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc in Asheville, after which Mr. Ganzon's ashes will be interred with his wife at Skyview Memorial Cemetery in Asheville.
